New "City Hall This Week" Begins Monday

New Episode Begins Airing Monday, April 26 on DTV8; All Previous
Episodes "On Demand" on the City's DTV8 Web Site

 

DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the April 19, 2010 Durham
City Council meeting and other topics of interest will be featured in
the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."  The show will begin
airing on Monday, April 26 and will also be available to watch on-demand
at www.durhamnc.gov/dtv8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm. 

 

Police Department Receives Federal Financial Support to Fight Drugs in
Durham

The Police Department is getting some help from a federal grant to fight
drug trafficking in Durham.  The $407,431 High Intensity Drug
Trafficking Area grant will be used to help continue reducing drug
availability by supporting joint efforts between Durham and other law
enforcement agencies.  Some of the agencies the Police Department works
with are the Drug Enforcement Administration, the State Bureau of
Investigation, the Raleigh Police Department, and several other local
law enforcement agencies.

 

New, Locally-owned Restaurant and Market Gets Financial Support from
City

A new, locally-owned restaurant and market is getting some financial
support from the City.  The City Council approved a $15,000
Merchandise-Based Retail Incentive grant for Eno Restaurant and Market.
The restaurant is expected to open by this summer and is located in the
Parrish Street Project area at 102 City Hall Plaza, Suite 101.  The
money will be used for the installation of new bathroom facilities, new
ceilings and walls, and the installation of a new HVAC and kitchen hood
ventilation system.  The restaurant will feature takeout service and
in-store dining as well as an internal market selling fresh farm produce
to the general public.

 

Other interviews featured on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This
Week":

*         Water Management Department Director Don Greeley - Offers a
look at what it will take to update the City's two water reclamation
facilities in order for Durham to be in compliance with the Jordan and
Falls Lake Rules. 

 

*         Brown & Caldwell Engineers Project Manager Mike Fowler -
Explains what can and should be done to improve the water quality in
Ellerbe Creek.

 

*         Durham City/County Sustainability Office Manager Tobin Freid -
Explains what progress is being made toward the reduction of Greenhouse
Gas Emissions in Durham, as well as what work still needs to be done. 

 

*         COP Capt. Robert Scott and COP Sgt. Tehron Cates - Explain
what the Durham's Citizen Observer Patrol (COP) is and how involved
residents are helping to keep the city safe every day.

 

"City Hall This Week" is a news program dedicated to informing Durham
residents about what is going on inside Durham's City Hall.  Each
edition is taped on the first and third Tuesday of the month - the day
after City Council meetings.  It airs twice a day on DTV8 (Time Warner
Cable channel 8) through the week of the next City Council meeting.  For
