Thanks for this, Amy. I cannot make this meeting, but I want to plead again (I've done so via a couple previous workshops) for a public bus stop at/near Creekside Elementary School. At 8:30/9 AM and 3:30/4 PM there is significant traffic backup due to parents picking up their kids from school. In addition, a lot of lower-income parents do not have transportation to the school and, thus, can't readily participate in programs at the school (for parents or their kids) or volunteer at the school as other parents, with access to a car and gas money, can do.

I sincerely hope the city will consider putting a bus stop at or near Creekside Elementary School, which is essentially right at the corner of 54 and I-40 (at least as far as the traffic is concerned).

Sincerely,
Melissa Rooney
(Creekside parent, PTA grants committee chairperson, school site-based parent representative, and school volunteer).

Fast Facts:
· The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan
Planning Organization (DCHC MPO) will host its final community workshop on May
11 to present the recommended scenario that has been developed for the mobility
and development in the NC-54/I-40 corridor, a critical gateway linking the City
of Durham, Town of Chapel Hill, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel
Hill.

· The elements of the recommended scenario not
only come from technical data analysis and existing plan guidance, but also
from the input that was gathered during and after the first and second public
workshops held in November 2009 and February 2010.
o Prior
to the final workshop on May 11, interested participants can view the
recommended scenario on the project’s Web site at www.nc54-I40corridorstudy.com.

· During the final workshop, participants
should expect to:
o Review
the recommended scenario and how it was developed based on input from the prior
public workshops;
o Refine
the corridor blueprint; and
o Discuss
project phasing and implementation.

· Following the workshop on May 11, the final
master plan will be presented to the local and regional policy boards beginning
in July 2010 and used to inform transportation/traffic analysis, land use
decisions, project planning, and funding priorities.
o The
total cost for the study is $257,432 with 80 percent of the funding coming from
federal transportation planning funds and the remaining 20 percent funded
jointly by the City of Durham, Durham County Government, and the Town of Chapel
Hill.

· For more information about this study visit www.nc54-I40corridorstudy.com or
