Fast Facts:
* The Durham-Chapel Hill-Carrboro Metropolitan Planning
Organization (DCHC MPO) will host its final community workshop on May 11
to present the recommended scenario that has been developed for the
mobility and development in the NC-54/I-40 corridor, a critical gateway
linking the City of Durham, Town of Chapel Hill, and the University of
North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
* The elements of the recommended scenario not only come from
technical data analysis and existing plan guidance, but also from the
input that was gathered during and after the first and second public
workshops held in November 2009 and February 2010.
o Prior to the final workshop on May 11, interested participants can
view the recommended scenario on the project's Web site at
www.nc54-I40corridorstudy.com.
* During the final workshop, participants should expect to:
o Review the recommended scenario and how it was developed based on
input from the prior public workshops;
o Refine the corridor blueprint; and
o Discuss project phasing and implementation.
* Following the workshop on May 11, the final master plan will
be presented to the local and regional policy boards beginning in July
2010 and used to inform transportation/traffic analysis, land use
decisions, project planning, and funding priorities.
o The total cost for the study is $257,432 with 80 percent of the
funding coming from federal transportation planning funds and the
remaining 20 percent funded jointly by the City of Durham, Durham County
Government, and the Town of Chapel Hill.
