2010 Poster Winners Help Celebrate Drinking Water Week

Statewide Winners Honored at Last Night's City Council Meeting

 

DURHAM, N.C. - Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell and the Durham City Council
recognized six student-artists with certificates at last night's City
Council meeting for their winning interpretations in the City's 2010
Water Conservation Poster Contest.  

 

The poster contest, coordinated by the City's Department of Water
Management, is a part of the City's annual celebration of Drinking Water
Week.  The theme for this year's contest was "Every Drop Counts" and the
winning entries were selected from among 133 total entries submitted to
the City.  

 

Winning entries in the Grades 3-5 Division are:

*       Ian Layzer, 4th grade, Durham Academy - First Place

*       Christen Mela, 4th grade, Durham Academy - Second Place

*       Earnisha Thomas, 5th grade, Holt Elementary - Third Place

 

Winning entries in the Grades 6-8 Division are:

*       Keels Jones, 8th grade, Voyager Academy - First Place

*       Natalie Liller, 8th grade, Voyager Academy - Second Place

*       Jemar Beulah, 7th grade, Chewning Middle School - Third Place

 

These winning entries recently represented Durham in a statewide contest
sponsored by the North Carolina American Water Works/Water Environment
Association.  The City is pleased to announce that Ian Layzer, Christen
Mela, and Earnisha Thomas won first, second, and third place
respectively at the State Level, 3-5 Division.  Furthermore, Keels
Jones, Natalie Liller, and Jemar Beulah also won first, second, and
third place respectively at the State Level, 6-8 Division.  

 

The posters are now on display in the lobby of City Hall and can also be
