[Durham INC] Developers get 751 hearing postponed again, but PA opposition run is still on this Thurday-- details herein

Note: the development team has gotten a change in the 751 public hearing date until July 26 ...

Remember the commissioners would only give us opponents an 8 day delay (after apparently discussing the situation with the developers, who no doubt had some part in the discussion of the opponents' deferral date)? Now it appears that Durham County Gov't can and will actually wait until the end of July -- since the developers (and not the citizens) have requested it. It's a little late for developers to be trying to garner public support, as they contend, don't you think? I mean this whole thing started in 2006, and they haven't cared much about public support before now! If you ask me, they're trying to garner petition signatories' support. Regardless, this whole process is apparently at their beck and call...and that, alone, is a sad, sad, fact of the current Durham county gov't leadership.

Subject: We are still on, despite the change of hearing dates

 Fabulous runners and walkers...

Despite the BOCC and Southern Durham Development constantly changing dates of the hearing, we are going ahead with our Relay Race for a Paycheck this Thursday as planned. I have had several calls from media so I think we will continue the pressure with this event. 

Slight change of details: Last leg will be completed by either Melissa E or Kathryn.

Anyone have a photographer they know who would volunteer to take some pictures?

4:30 John K. Start in parking lot behind 401 North Driver Street (Holton Career Resource Center)
Run south on Driver (from the front of the Center, turn right onto Driver), on the right side of the street
Turn right onto Main Street, running on the right side of the street
Cross Maple Street, turn left on Maple and immediately right again to stay on Main Street, still on the right side of the street

4:45 Tag up with Fran at the intersection of Main & Morning Glory (1 mile marker), at the Golden Belt parking lot
Continue on Main, crossing to the left side of the street

5:00 Tag up with Stacy at 201 Main Street, where the County Commissioners meet (1.6 mile marker)
Continue on Main, turning left onto Blackwell Street
Run on the right side of Blackwell, past the American Tobacco Campus

5:15 Tag up with Kids At the far side of the intersection of Blackwell & Morehead (2.2 mile marker) at the entrance to the American Tobacco Trail
Liam and Elena (my kids) will run a short distance to the first bridge at the beginning of American Tobacco:

5:35 Tag up with Sarah at Otis St.  crossing at (approx) 3.4 mile marker- (street parking available on Otis. Continue on the ATT.  

5:50 Tag up with Kristie at the intersection with Fayetteville (4.2 mile marker), and Parking is available at the Parkview Mini Mart at the intersection of Fayetteville & Pilot Street

6:05 Tag up with Husband at the south side of the intersection with Cornwallis. (5.3 mile marker)Parking is available in a small gravel lot between the trail entrance and Uncle Bob’s Self Storage.

6:20 Tag up with Katie & Eric Jr. at the intersection with Pearson Street (6.3 mile marker).  Street parking available on Pearson

6:35 Tag up with Eric Sr. at the intersection with Woodcroft Parkway (7.5 mile marker) Parking is available at the Rite Aid at the corner of Fayetteville & Woodcroft).

Run south on Fayetteville Street (on the right side of the street), across I-40, to Herndon Road intersection, and cross to the left side of the street to the street. 

6:50 Tag up with Pat at the corner of Herndon Rd in front of P.F. Chang’s (8.8 miles).  Parking is available at P.F. Chang’s. 
Go south on Fayetteville Street (on the left side of the street) 

7:05 Tag up with Michelle & Melissa at the intersection with Massey Chapel Road, at the fire hydrant in front of the Children’s Campus (9.5 miles) (portions no sidewalk).  
continue south on Fayetteville Street (on the left side of the street). 

7:20 Tag up with John L at the intersection with South Heritage Drive (10.2 miles) (portions no sidewalk).

Cross to the right side of Fayetteville Street and continue south on Fayetteville Street to 8606 Fayetteville Street (yellow farmhouse, home of Judy Bailes and end behind house by garden (11 miles).  Additional parking available at intersection of Fayetteville Street & Scott King Road.

Hello Runners & Walkers!! 

Kathryn and I finished scouting the route yesterday, and here’s
what we’ve come up with. It is mostly on the Tobacco Trail which is very
nice. At the end it does get a little bit tricky, but as long as you are
careful and aware, navigating some non-sidewalk sections shouldn’t be a
problem. 

Please let me know if there is a problem with your section
or if you need to switch with someone. Also, if the timing seems off (i.e. if
you are super fast or need more time), please let me know! I want to be as
accurate as possible so everyone is at their starting points on time (and once
adjusted, if you are ahead of schedule, we ask that you slow down so we can
stay on schedule! ;)
