THe worker on the BP oil rig who reported the broken safety equipment was probably told fixes were "incredibly expensive and with no real understood benefit." (-:

Public Hearings - June 30th and July 1st - 6:30 PM
Importance:
High
Ladies and Gentlemen:
The Environmental Management Commission is holding two very
important hearings in two weeks with massive financial implications for our
community.
The City staff plans to attend both hearings to share our
concern. We are also drafting some information to share with you that
you may consider in developing your own message. Please plan to
personally invite good speakers who will be impacted by the enormity of these
rules (potential $1.5 BILLION cost to citizens and businesses) and get their
commitment to attend one of these hearings. They will probably be
allowed 3 minutes to speak, but hearing from real people is very important to
getting the rules to change.
Our biggest concern is that STAGE 2 is incredibly expensive
and with no real understood benefit. Without requiring DENR to assess
the impact of Stage 1 first, it makes no sense to order Stage 2 at this
time. You may have your own important points to make about Stage 1 and
how it will be a burden on your business or household.
We will share more with you tomorrow and next week, but we
need your commitment to getting folks to attend one or both hearings.
June 30th is the closest as it is at Neal Middle School on HWY
98.
