[Durham INC] Stung by 7-0 Council defeat, billboard industry needs more time...

folks,

First the billboard industry argued their measure should be delayed because the County Commissioners apparently can't handle two issues on the same night.

Then, after dragging this out for more than two years, circumventing the community with lobbyists and spin, industry now insists it needs another month. (Stung by their 7-0 defeat at City Council, industry got a delay until September 13.)

Industry wants to stick electronic billboards in Durham. The community has overwhelmingly said no to big, bright billboards blinking more than 10,000 ads/day in our community. (No doubt industry will spin this into saying they're working on a so-called "compromise" measure.)

Industry can call it whatever they want. But what they're trying to do is overturn Durham's successful billboard ban. Once they get a foot in the door, we can't close it.

Stay tuned,
