A number of people contacted me requesting to be notified when a basic 

CERT training class is scheduled.  The details are below.  Please share

this with anyone in Durham that would like to attend the training.  While 

the training is titled Community Emergency Response Team training,

becoming a member of a team is not a requirement.  The term CERT can

also be viewed as Citizen Emergency Response Training.  This program 

educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact 

their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire 

safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical 

operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, 

CERT trained citizens will be able to better prepare themselves and their family

for disasters and can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following 

an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help.

 

SCHEDULE FOR CERT CLASS #21

 

All classes will be conducted at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC),

Durham County Fire Marshal's Office, 2422 Broad Street, Durham  27704.  

 

Classes are from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm with approximately 1 hour for lunch.  

Lunch is on your own.  Student manuals will be provided.  Bring your own 

note taking materials.  Portions of the training will be conducted outside 

and require student participation, so dress appropriate to the weather and 

activity.

 

Class size is limited to a maximum of 18 students.  If you would like to attend 

this training, each student must individually contact the program manager no 

later than close of business October 1st to register (contact information is 

below). No third party or group registrations allowed.  If there are fewer than 

five (5) students on the closing day of registration, class will be cancelled.
