Please see below. This sounds like SUCH fun. I wish I could make it, but alas I
have to attend a meeting on Title 1 schools -- which doesn't sound nearly as
exciting...
Cheers,
Melissa (Rooney)

GASLANDis a Sundance award-winning film about the impacts of the current gas
drilling boom in 24 states. See water that can be lit on fire right out of the
sink, chronically ill residents in drilling areas with mysterious symptoms, huge
pools of toxic waste that kill cattle and vegetation, well blowouts and gas
explosions.
Do you live in an area of North Carolinathat energy companies may want to mine
for gas? (see map below) “hydrofracking” (drilling deep and horizontal wells and
breaking open fractures to allow more gas to be collected) allows energy
companies to extract larger quantities of natural gas. Dick Cheney and energy
industry allies got an EXEMPTION FROM THE SAFE DRINKING WATER ACT IN 2005 for
this industry and our water supplies may be at risk! Clean Water for NC will be
at the Sept. 3 showing with info on how tohelp protectyour community. We plan to
bring the film to other NC communities this fall! Approximate locations of
NC’s gas-bearing shales:
