Please see below. This sounds like a great thing, and it shouldn't be hard to
attend for those of you who live in/near the city :)

Dear Durhamcommunity,

My name is Chris Chinchar and I am organizing a community art event entitled A
Community Portrait of Durhamwhich will take place Sunday October 3, Noonto 4pmin
Durham Central Park. The purpose of the project is to create a dialogue about
“What is Durham?” and to transform those ideas into a community work of visual
art. It is also an excuse to celebrate our diverse town and creative community
with a neighborhood day in the park!

An aerial photograph of the group adorned in blue and carrying art will be taken
as the group assembles to form a mosaic of the Durhamcity flag. The final print
will be exhibited in “ People Who you May Know: Contemporary Portraits” which
opens on October 8 at the Durham Arts Council. Attached is a one page
illustrated document (thanks to VC Rogers!) that tells of the event and how to
participate. We welcome your presence and encourage your creativity.

The project is also meant to be a fundraiser for the Scrap Exchange which seeks
to purchase a permanent location in the Central Parkdistrict, increase capacity
by expanding programming, services and jobs to the community. The creative reuse
center's expansion plans include; construction and demolition waste collection,
architectural reuse, job skills creation and training, design studio, as well as
adding green spaces, outdoor meeting venues, and multi tenant shared spaces.
 The Capital Campaign is underway!

I invite you to come by the Scrap Exchange on any Tuesday night in September
from 7-9. We will be planning and making art. The workshops are FREE , but
donations are always welcome. We hope you will choose to join us and take your
place within the portrait.

Feel free to share the event and post flyer. All are welcome!

Chris
