Durham Hosts Angier-Driver Neighborhood Streetscape Project Meeting

Community Meeting to Discuss Design and Engineering Phase of the
Neighborhood Commercial Area Streetscape Project

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham residents interested in the streetscape design of
the Angier-Driver commercial area should mark their calendars now to
provide input directly to City of Durham staff and the project
consultants.

The City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) and the
Department of Public Works are hosting a neighborhood meeting to begin
the design and engineering phase as part of the planning process for the
Angier-Driver neighborhood commercial area streetscape project. The
first of several neighborhood meetings will be on September 21, 2010,
from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Angier Avenue Baptist Church, located at
2101 Angier Avenue, Durham.

According to Chris Dickey, economic development senior manager with the
City's OEWD, in order to provide the highest quality project that best
serves all properties and stakeholders, the process needs resident input
at this important juncture. "Our goal is to create streetscape designs
for these key commercial districts and a major component will be the
continued input of local residents, businesses, developers and other
stakeholders," Dickey said. "Through community meetings, we will
determine how each corridor can be improved as it relates to aesthetics,
safety, and functionality.

The project, funded by 2005 bond funds, addresses streetscape designs at
the intersection of Angier Avenue and Driver Street. The E.G. & G.
Group, Inc. is leading project design and engineering process. According
to Dickey, E.G. & G. Group, Inc. has an extensive track record of
designing and implementing award-winning streetscape projects and has
already prepared conceptual plans for several other neighborhood
commercial areas streetscape projects in Durham.
