2010 Durham Golden Leaf Award Winners Honored at September 30th Ceremony

Community Awards Recognized Best Contributions to Durham's Appearance

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE October 1, 2010 Durham NC - Last night at the
Trotter Building in downtown Durham, hundreds of community volunteers,
city and county officials and business leaders came together to
celebrate 17 winners of the 2010 Golden Leaf Awards during a ceremony in
honor of the Eighth Annual Golden Leaf Awards, an annual community-wide
celebration of those making position contribution to Durham's
appearance.

Now in its eight year and co-sponsored by the Durham City/County
Appearance Commission and Keep Durham Beautiful, Inc., the Golden Leaf
Awards acknowledge and encourage design and maintenance that contributes
to the visual beauty, sustainability and usability of the Durham
community. These prestigious awards in eight categories were nominated
by the public this summer from which winners were selected by a jury of
design professionals.

This year's judges had to work very hard to make their choices. "We had
60 nominations this year, but even with so many to choose from the
judges still found it hard to choose a winner in some categories," said
Kevin Turner, Chairman, Durham Appearance Commission. "There were so
many interesting and excellent nominations and each one should consider
themselves a winner through their strong commitment to improving
appearance in Durham."

Keep Durham Beautiful Chair, Jamie Clarke, was enthusiastic about the
newest award, the People's Choice. "The nominees for all these awards
are the people's choice, because someone from the community had to
nominate them," said Clarke. "Having the public choose one winner from
all 60 nominations, in eight different categories is a great addition to
the event. We had over 800 people vote this year, and really added to
everyone's enjoyment of last night's event."

This year the Golden Leaf nominations were in the following eight
categories: Community Properties, Commercial Properties, Residential
Properties (Single Family and Multi-Family), Sustainable Properties,
