Durham Suspends Curbside Solid Waste Collections Today

Curbside Collection for Thursday Customers Scheduled for Friday,
December 17; 

City Hall Operating Under Its Normal Schedule

 

DURHAM, N.C. - Due to today's winter precipitation and the continued icy
conditions on many secondary streets, the City of Durham has suspended
curbside solid waste collections for Thursday customers. City Hall is
open today and operating under its normal schedule.

 

The City's Department of Solid Waste Management will collect curbside
solid waste and recycling carts for Thursday customers on Friday,
December 17. Residents are asked to leave their carts on their curb
overnight for collection tomorrow. 

 

Bulky item and yard waste curbside collections are also suspended today.
Residents are asked to also leave their bulky items and yard waste carts
on their curbs for collection tomorrow as well. 

 

Customers are asked to wait until Monday, December 20 to contact Durham
One Call to report a missed collection. The City's Waste Disposal and
Recycling Center (Transfer Station) is open today under its normal
schedule. 

 

In addition, Durham Parks and Recreation has cancelled its afterschool
programs today; however, recreation centers are operating under their
normal schedules.

 

The City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development has cancelled
its Professional Placement Network (PPN) event for December 16.
Tonight's workshop has been rescheduled for January 13, 2011, at 6 p.m.
at 302 E. Pettigrew Street, Suite 190, Durham. 

 

Finally, the City's 10th Annual Memorial Tree Lighting Ceremony in Honor
of Murdered Domestic Violence Victims Across North Carolina will take
place as scheduled in the Council Chambers of City Hall, located at 101
City Hall Plaza, beginning at 5:30 p.m. tonight. This event will also
air live on DTV8 (Time Warner Cable channel 8).
