Durham Council Member Appointed to National League of Cities'
Transportation Infrastructure and Services Steering Committee
DURHAM, N.C. - National League of Cities President James Mitchell, Jr.,
has announced the reappointment of City Council Member Mike Woodard to
the National League of Cities' (NLC) 2011 Transportation Infrastructure
and Services Policy and Advocacy Steering Committee.
This committee has the responsibility for developing NLC federal policy
positions in the areas of public transit, streets and highways,
aviation, and passenger and freight rail. Woodard was first appointed to
the committee in 2010.
According to Woodard, his membership on this committee allows him to
continue his focus on solving the Triangle's pressing transportation
needs. "My work on this important committee gives me the opportunity to
work for Durham's and the region's transportation needs at a national
level," Woodard said. "We will focus on passage of the long-delayed
federal transportation reauthorization bill, as well as work with our
partners in Washington to develop an effective, multi-modal
transportation system."
As a member of the committee, Woodard will play a key role in shaping
NLC's policy positions, while advocating on behalf of America's cities
and towns on Capitol Hill, with the Administration, and at home.
The chair of this year's Transportation Infrastructure and Services
Committee is David Sander, council member, Rancho Cordova, Calif.
Serving as this year's vice chairs are Lee Dunlap, mayor pro tem, Plano,
Texas, and Patsy Kinsey, council member, Charlotte, N.C.
The National League of Cities is the nation's oldest and largest
organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of
opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate
for 19,000 cities, towns, and villages, representing more than 218
million Americans. For more information on NLC's other committees and
