Melissa,

An hour is actually a relatively long committee discussion for a bill.  
One can get on the electronic notice list for both the full  
legislative body (both House and Senate) and for select committees.  
House and Senate calendars list bills to be formally introduced, and  
bills up for a vote.   Committees tend to meet at set times, and both  
meetings and cancellations are electronically noticed.  Home page for
