[Durham INC] The Billboard Bill

Dear Neighbors:

 

The bill, S.B. 183, was introduced today.  You can read it on the general
assembly's website.

 

It does what we thought it would do:

 

1)      It would allow billboard owners to cut much more vegetation from the
public right-of-way than the law currently allows; and

2)      It would allow digital billboard to go anywhere a billboard is
allowed now.  Inside city limits spacing could be as close as 500 feet along
controlled access highways and much less on non-controlled access state
roads- outside city limits the spacing could be even closer; and

3)      It would allow billboard companies to replace all standing
billboards with digital billboards even if the standing billboard is
non-conforming under existing law.
