Durham Encourages Residents to Follow Progress During the Paving Season

Residents Can Receive Timely Updates from Daily Traffic Camera Feeds or
New Twitter Account

DURHAM, N.C. - Residents can now more easily stay informed of the City
of Durham's efforts to smooth out the worst streets as well as traffic
conditions in Durham through several online and on-air communities.

The City is now using Twitter, www.Twitter.com/DurhamStreets, to provide
real-time updates on street closures, repaving, relevant public
meetings, and other relevant tweets pertaining to city streets. The
@DurhamStreets <http://twitter.com/DurhamStreets>  Twitter account will
be a source of up-to-date information from the City, with relevant
content for residents, businesses, news media, and other individuals
interested in the latest updates on the City's repaving progress.

In addition to Twitter, the City offers live feeds from 16 of Durham's
traffic cameras, now airing every Monday through Friday from 6:30 a.m.
to 8:30 a.m. and from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The live footage broadcasts
simultaneously on DTV8, the City's government television station on Time
Warner Cable channel 8, and on the City's website at
www.DurhamNC.gov/DTV8 by selecting "Watch the DTV8 Live Stream" menu
option.

According to Beverly B. Thompson, director of the City's Office of
Public Affairs, the City is offering additional live traffic camera
footage on both DTV8 and the website to keep Durham motorists informed
about the traffic conditions on state-maintained roads that will be
affected by North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) road
improvements. "We are using these additional communication channels to
keep residents informed about what's going on in the city and the
progress being made as we smooth out our streets and continue to make
Durham a great place to live, work, and play," Thompson said.

The traffic cameras are shown on a rotating basis during the morning and
afternoon time blocks as follows:

* U.S. Hwy. 15-501 & Martin Luther King Jr. Pkwy.

*         N.C. Hwy. 147 & Mangum St.
