Fast Facts:
* To kick off the 2011 paving season, the City of Durham and
N.C. Department of Transportation (NCDOT) are hosting an event for
Durham residents to learn more about state and local paving plans.
* Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell, City Manager Tom Bonfield,
Deputy City Manager Ted Voorhees, NCDOT Board of Transportation
Representative Chuck Watts, and NCDOT Engineer Wally Bowman, P.E. will
discuss plans for this year's street repaving efforts.
* Thanks to Durham voters, Durham's repaving efforts are being
funded from recent bonds totaling $37.5 million, including a $20 million
bond approved November 2010 to repave 150 miles of the city's worst
streets.
* NCDOT awarded $14.4 million in state contracts in 2010 and
2011 for Durham County road improvements, which includes repaving, road
widening, and other repair work.
* Paving equipment will be on display so residents can learn
what to look for when repaving occurs throughout Durham over the coming
spring and summer months.
* The equipment is being provided courtesy of the City's
contractors for repaving projects this year-Barnhill Contracting
Company, REA Contracting, The Fred Smith Company, and Triangle Grading
and Paving.
