How can you help regarding BB&T dry cleaner contamination site?
Please:
· Write and ask others to write public comments before Wednesday, April
13. The deadline will be here before we know it. I will follow up soon with
my own highlights from my review of the Interim Risk Management Plan (RMP)
(which is available on the North Carolina Department of Environment and
Natural Resources¹ (DENR) website through the link given below). I will also
provide suggested bullet points that you could include in your comments to
Billy Meyer, the DENR Project Manager for the BB&T site.

Remediation proposed by NC DENR
The following are excerpts from a public notice distributed by NC DENR:
³An investigation of the extent of contamination at the Facility Site has
been concluded and dry-cleaning contamination in soil, groundwater, and
indoor air have been identified. Based on the risks posed by the
contamination, the proposed interim remedy includes demolishing the on-site
building, and instituting land-use restrictions to control current and
future risks. These interim measures are intended to control risks at the
Facility Site while DENR determines the best remedial strategy to address
all the affected properties.²
³Pursuant to N.C.G.S. 143-215.104L, on behalf of Branch Banking and Trust
(BB&T), the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources¹
(DENR¹s) private contractor has prepared a Notice of Intent to Remediate a
Dry-Cleaning Solvent Facility or Abandoned Site (NOI). The purpose of this
Summary of the NOI is to notify the community and invite comment on the
proposed interim remedy for the Facility Site.
The elements of the complete NOI are included in the Interim Risk Management
Plan (RMP), which is available online at www.ncdsca.org
<http://www.ncdsca.org> <http://www.ncdsca.org> , under ³Public Notices.²
