City of Durham Now Texting Job Opportunities

Job Seekers Should Text "Durham" to 85620 to Subscribe to Alerts

 

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham has gone mobile in trying to reach job seekers
interested in career opportunities with the City.

 

The City's Human Resources Department is now sending notices on job
opportunities by text message to subscribers. Job seekers interested in
receiving these notices should simply text "Durham" to 85620. Regular
service provider texting fees will apply.

 

According to Alethea Bell, director of the City's Human Resources
Department, sending job postings to mobile devices is the latest way the
department is reaching out to job seekers. "By subscribing to this
service, it allows individuals to join the department's database for
receiving notices on jobs and other City information," Bell said. "We
are adding this to the many ways we promote job opportunities to further
expand the City's reach to job seekers in hope of having them consider
the City for employment."

 

In addition to texting job postings, the department also places
information on the City's website, with the North Carolina Employment
Security Commission, in professional journals and websites, at job
fairs, and in a bulletin provided to other organizations, agencies, and
universities including Durham County Government, Durham Public Schools,
Greater Durham Chamber of Commerce, and most universities and colleges
in the University of North Carolina System. According to Bell, job
postings are also available on the City's DTV8 Bulletin Board, which
runs daily on Time Warner Cable channel 8, and are sent out on the DTV8
Facebook page at www.Facebook.com/DurhamTV8, and on the DTV8 Twitter
feed at www.Twitter.com/DTV8.
