Durham Community Indicators Report Now Available
Imagine Durham Partnership Addresses Community's Most Pressing Issues

June 1, 2011

Durham, NC - If you're interested in an update on some of Durham's most pressing issues, you'll want to go online today to view the most recent progress report from Imagine Durham.

The 2011 Community Indicators Progress Report is the result of the work done by members of Imagine Durham, Durham's Results Based Accountability Initiative, which is a collaborative between the City of Durham, Durham County, and the United Way of the Greater Triangle. The purpose of the report is to highlight trend data for key community indicators and to note areas that need enhancements.

Highlights from the report include positive trends in crime and safety outcomes, improvements in various health indicators, upward trends on end-of-grade test scores, and a strong creative vitality index for Durham. Areas of concern include an increase in the numbers of families living in poverty as well as an increase in unemployment, although the latter is slowly improving.

Nine years ago, Imagine Durham was created to bring diverse sectors across Durham together to address the most pressing issues. The initiative is organized around eight quality-of-life areas and outcome committees are made up of representatives from nonprofit agencies, local government, businesses, and concerned residents committed to creating a stronger, healthier, and more sustainable Durham.
