[Durham INC] A Model of Positive Advocacy

I wasn't suggesting we adopt the language used by the NC NAACP. Of course, we should use language that reflects the position we adopted.

What I was suggesting is that advocacy that respects and shows compassion for those with whom we disagree is the appropriate model for INC to use.

We are a community organization and our neighborhoods, friends and institutions throughout Durham have diverse opinions on this and other matters. I think this model reflects the ethos of Durham that we are all encouraging.

If we choose to use harsh and derogatory terms to describe those with whom we disagree, I think we lessen ourselves and the positions we are advocating.
