Durham Hosts Harvard Avenue Ribbon Cutting Saturday

Residents and News Media Invited to Join Local Officials to Celebrate
2011 Paving Progress 

 

What:              "The Buck Stops Here" - a Ribbon-Cutting Event to
Celebrate the Paving of Harvard Avenue and Completion of Durham's 2011
Paving Season 

 

Who:               City of Durham's Office of the Mayor, City Manager's
Office, and City's Public Works Department

 

When:             Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 10 a.m.

 

Where:           Durham Parks and Recreation's East Durham Community
Center (lawn in front of center)

Fast Facts:

*         To celebrate the paving of Harvard Avenue and the completion
of the successful 2011 paving season, the City of Durham is hosting a
ribbon-cutting ceremony for Durham residents to learn more about local
paving success and plans for the 2012 paving season.

 

*         Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell, City Manager Tom Bonfield, and
Public Works Director Marvin Williams will commemorate the completion of
the Harvard Avenue paving project with a ribbon-cutting ceremony as well
as discuss accomplishments thus far during this season's street repaving
efforts and what residents can expect in 2012 as the City works to
repave 150 miles of the city's worst streets. 

 

*         Thanks to Durham voters, Durham's repaving efforts are being
funded from recent bonds totaling $37.5 million, including a $20 million
bond approved in November 2010.
