Fast Facts:

* The City's Public Works Department is ready to present designs
of the new roadway showing the location and characteristics of the
proposed improvements for Carver Street from Danube Lane to the
intersection of Old Oxford Highway and Hamlin Road.

* Due to the volume of traffic in this area, this project is
necessary to increase both the street capacity and make intersection
improvements. The proposed project will construct a one mile extension
of Carver Street from its current intersection with Danube Lane to the
intersection of Old Oxford Highway and Hamlin Road.

* Currently, it is anticipated that a three-lane typical
cross-section with bike lanes and sidewalks will be constructed, which
will provide one lane through traffic in each direction and a left-turn
lane for existing and future cross streets and driveways. Intersection
improvements at Danube Lane and Old Oxford Highway will also be
included.

* Horvath Associates of Durham is the lead consultant on this
roadway project, which is currently in the design phase. Construction is
scheduled to begin in Spring 2012.

* While a formal presentation is not planned, City staff will be
on hand at the October 11 public meeting to discuss the project, answer
questions, and take comments and concerns at this phase in the project.
This is the third public meeting on this project.

* Additional information, including a project map of the area to
be affected by the extension, is available on the City's website at
www.DurhamNC.gov/Departments/Works/Project_Carver_St_Ext.cfm.

* For additional information or to submit comments on the
designs, contact Byron Brady, project manager with the City's Public
Works Department, at (919) 560-4326, ext. 30296 or by e-mail at
Byron.Brady at DurhamNC.gov.

* The City of Durham will provide auxiliary aids and services
under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) for disabled persons who
wish to participate in this public information meeting. Anyone requiring
special services should contact the City's ADA coordinator at (919)
560-4197, ext. 21254, TTY at (919) 560-1200; or via e-mail at
ADA at DurhamNC.gov, as soon as possible, but no later than 48 hours before
the scheduled meeting.
