Dear Friends of Public Education:


The Durham School Board is set to vote  on December 15th on a wide range of changes to our Durham's magnet programs and student assignment zoning without proper democratic input from the Durham Community (especially the Latino community) and without budgetary, environmental and social equity issues taken into consideration. This plan in its present form will hurt the quality of public education in Durham.

There is reason to believe Durham Public School's Board of Education could actually vote 'yes' on their magnet proposal and as reflected in public feedback, our number one task right now is to slow this down. According to members of the school board, they have to decide on the details of Lucas Middle school by 12/15, the rest can wait.
