[Durham INC] What Should Be on the INC Listserv?

In answer to Christine's question: some people may have an occasional desire to post something, and no desire to get the e-mail that subscribing entails.
For John's question, I would say:1) The purpose of the list-serve is getting out news that affects neighborhoods and enabling discussions of neighborhood issues.2) We try to be "commercial free"3) One-time posts like the Common Ground Theater one are OK, but the purpose should be "this is an opportunity in Durham" soThere should be a standard disclaimer that this was posted as information about what kinds of wonderful things Durham does, is a one-time news piece on the group, and anyone interested in more of such e-mail should get on the group's mailing list No attachments (this just avoids the question of "too big" attachments)I know that there a lot of desperate marketing folks out there so we don't want to have a reputation as an easy way to "get someone's numbers up" -- so we don't need to be too generous in the interpretation "of neighborhood interest" and "commercial free"
Regards, pat

Is there a reason why this person didn't join the listserv?

It seems to me that the problem is solved if you simply request someone join the list in order to post. Less work for you this way.

Hello Folks,
I'm now one of the administrators for the INC listserv. I received a request to approve an email from a non-member about the Common Ground Theater. I approved it, and I also thought that this is a good time to raise an issue: is this the sort of thing you want to receive on the INC listserv?
If you have any strong opinions about this, one way or the other, please let me know. What are particularly welcome are guidelines that the administrators and listserv members could follow about what is appropriate and what is not. Thanks.
John
