Durham County Library Hosts Dr. John Q. Williams in an Exploration
of One Family's African Roots

About:  Dr. John Q. Williams spent years researching his family history for his new book, Our Roots: African Origins of the Reclaimed Legacy of Three American Families. On Saturday, February 11, at 3 p.m. at the Main Library, he will share some of the stories he uncovered during his 48-year journey.
Williams traveled extensively in Africa while writing the book. He learned from village elders the story of the transatlantic slave trade from the African perceptive. Williams used oral histories, DNA testing and other genealogical methods to research the book, which won the North Carolina Genealogical Society's Award in 2011 for excellence in publishing. A book signing will follow the reading.
Dr. John Quinly Williams Jr. is a genealogist, consultant and agricultural educator. For more information about the program, contact Joanne Abel at 560-0268. This program is made possible, in large part, with funding from Durham Library Foundation.
