Durham JobLink Brings Mobile Unit to Neighborhoods

PACs 1, 3 and 4 to Get Direct Help for Job Searching and Fair Housing
Concerns

 

DURHAM, N.C. - Durham residents looking for employment or someone to
investigate fair housing concerns will soon be able to get help without
ever leaving their neighborhood.

 

The Durham JobLink Career Center's Mobile Unit and the City of Durham's
Human Relations Division in the Neighborhood Improvement Services
Department are teaming up to bring employment services and fair housing
information to three Partners Against Crime (PAC) districts this month.

 

Durham residents are encouraged to come and learn new strategies on how
to pursue effective employment searches in today's job market using the
Durham JobLink Career Center as well as have the opportunity to talk
with an investigator about fair housing laws and tenant rights. 

 

The three dates where the Durham JobLink Mobile Unit will be on site in
these three PAC districts are as follows:

 

PAC 1

Monday, March 5, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Holton Career and Resource Center, 401 N. Driver St. 

 

PAC 3

Monday, March 12, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Community Family Life and Recreation Center at Lyon Park, 1309 Halley
St.

 

PAC 4

Monday, March 19, 2012, from 11 a.m. - 4 p.m.

Irwin R. Holmes, Sr. Recreation Center at Campus Hills, 2000 S. Alston
Ave.

About the Neighborhood Improvement Services Department

The Neighborhood Improvement Services Department works to preserve and
improve quality of life conditions for Durham residents, and to
encourage active participation in neighborhood redevelopment and public
policy and decision making dialogue. The department is responsible for
enforcement of quality of life ordinances and state statutes including
the City's Minimum Housing Code; Nonresidential Code; Weedy Lot,
Abandoned and Junk Vehicle ordinances; and the State of North Carolina's
Unsafe Building Statute. The department's rapid responders, known as the
Impact Team, remediate non-compliant housing properties; abate public
nuisances, such as litter, graffiti, illegal dumping, and abandoned
