Are we  sure that Jeff Monsein is on this listserv and is getting these

Dear Jeff Monsein, 

I've just learned that are about to demolish the historic two-story  house 
at 910 Ninth Street. As the Durham Architecture and Historic Inventory  
states, this is the only surviving house in West Durham with a two-tiered  front 
porch. And you are about to raze it to the  ground.

For what? To put up another one of those hulking multiplexes,  another 
ugly, boxy structures that diminishes the historic nature of our  neighborhood. 
Shame on you.

Actions like this, destroying a historic structure like this, are  shameful 
and create resentment and resistance from those who love this  neighborhood 
and Durham for its historic intact neighborhoods and the  creative 
preservation of so many historic structures here (Golden Belt,  Brightleaf, American 
Tobacco to name just a  few).

There is a tremendous demand for properties in our neighborhood. Since  
word of your impending destruction of this property became public knowledge  
yesterday, several people have expressed interest in purchasing it. To see  
such a lovely historic home destroyed, a home which there are no doubt eager  
buyers for . . . . buyers who would preserve and restore it . . . . . to be  
replaced with an ugly, boxy, multiplex that diminishes the historic nature  
of our neighborhood. 

I hope you rethink this thoughtless decision. And I hope you consider  it 
carefully before you raze another historic property in our neighborhood.  
We're watching now.

Take a look at this lovely house. It's  about to be razed by Jeff Monsein 
(Aluminum Company of North Carolina). I  think so he can grace our 
neighborhood with another of those lovely,  boxy, fake-sided monstrosities that are 
now hulking behind the fire  station.

Page 160:
"WD-28  House  910 Ninth  St.:    This two-story single-pile house with 
rear  two-story ell is the only surviving house in West Durham with a 
two-tiered  front porch.  The house appears to be relatively unaltered on the  
exterior, having retained its original roof of patterned tin shingles, its  
original siding of molded weatherboards known as "German siding", and its  
original porch supports of box posts.  Two-story shed additions have  been 
constructed on the rear of the main block and on one elevation of the  rear wall."
