Presentation-Only Tickets Available for State of Durham's Economy 

Breakfast Event Tickets Sold Out; Online Registration for the
Presentation Only 

Available May 23 - June 1

 

What:              2012 State of Durham's Economy Breakfast 

 

Who:               City of Durham's Office of Economic and Workforce
Development in collaboration with the Greater Durham Chamber of
Commerce, Downtown Durham, Inc., Durham County Government, and the
Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau

 

When:             Wednesday, June 6, 2012, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. 

 

Where:            The Carolina Theatre (presentation begins at 8 a.m.)

Fast Facts:

*         It's not too late for those interested in an update on
Durham's economic performance to purchase tickets to attend the
presentation-only portion of the 2012 State of Durham's Economy
Breakfast. The breakfast portion of this annual event is currently sold
out. However, due to overwhelming demand, limited ticket purchases for
the presentation-only portion of the event will be available online
beginning today at $25 per ticket. Presentation-only tickets do not
include breakfast.

 

*         This annual event shares news about the progress made in 2011
to strengthen Durham's economic performance amidst the economic
downturn. Issues such as employment, tax-base growth, high-growth
industry activity, retail sales, commercial real estate markets, and
wages will be discussed. This year's event will also feature a panel
discussion with representatives from companies and organizations who
will share their perspectives Durham's innovation, entrepreneurship, and
business climate. 

 

*         The opening remarks for this year's event will be given by
Charles Hayes, chief executive officer of the Research Triangle Regional
Partnership. Kevin Dick, director of the City's Office of Economic and
Workforce Development, will then provide an overview on the state of
many key economic indicators for Durham in 2011 and what's in store for
2012. Following his presentation, Chris Gergen, founding executive
director with Bull City Forward and fellow at the Center for the
Advancement of Social Entrepreneurship at Duke University's Fuqua School
of Business, will moderate a discussion about various aspects of the
healthy climate for small business and entrepreneurship in Durham.
Panelists include Keith Pigues, dean of North Carolina Central
University's School of Business; Joe Bushfan, owner of Joe's Diner;
Larry Herst, chief executive officer of Triangle Ecyling; Wendy Clark,
owner of John O'Daniel Exchange; and Chris Heively, managing partner of
Triangle Startup Factory.  

 

*         To register for the presentation-only portion of the event,

online registration will close Friday, June 1. 

 

*         On-site ticket purchases for the presentation-only portion of
the event will also be available in the lobby of the Carolina Theatre on
June 6 beginning at 7:45 a.m. at $25 per ticket. Checks or credit cards
will be the only method of payment accepted for on-site,
presentation-only ticket purchases.
