Durham County Library Hosts Program by Visual Artist on Disappearing Southern Wetlands

About: Marjorie Pierson, Duke University's Nicolas School of the Environment lecturer, will lead a discussion regarding the disappearance of wetlands in the American South on Tuesday, June 5, at 7 p.m. at Southwest Regional Library. Pierson, a visual artist and environmental photographer, has a passion for documenting endangered wetlands, which are disappearing at rate of an acre a minute, according to<http://www.thefreedictionary.com/according+to>according to

..... Click the link for more information. the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Her images capture the wetland's fragile beauty in the south, while exploring water as a source of inspiration and cultural identity.

Pierson's images have appeared in solo and group exhibitions, including the 2009 North Carolina Artists Exhibition and the 2009 Southern Open, and have been selected for inclusion in juried shows by curators, critics and artists. Pierson's studio is located in downtown Durham's Golden Belt arts district.

Following the lecture there will be a light reception, and Pierson will unveil a work of art that she has donated to Durham County Library. Southwest Regional Library is located at 3605 Shannon Road. For more information, contact Joanne Abel at 919-560-0268.
