The bills are more simply numbered S937 and H1201, for searching at the
General Assembly website.. S397 was introduced by Senator Kinnaird of
Orange, and had no co-sponsors as of late Thursday. H1201 had four primary
sponsors and eight co-sponsors, including Rep. Luebke of Durham. It was
referred by the House Speaker to the Rules Committee, which is seldom good
news nowadays for a Democrat-sponsored bill.

Dear Friend -

There's great news today in North Carolina. Members of your state Senate
and House have just introduced resolutions calling for:

"an amendment to the United States Constitution to restore republican
democracy to the people of the United States, to clarify that corporations
are not natural persons and should not be afforded the same rights as
natural persons, and to state that money is not speech."

It's important that we show our support for these resolutions right away.
Can you please call your state Senator and Representative now, and urge them
to co-sponsor these bills (S.J.R. 937 and H.J.R. 1201)?

them for free.

With this action, North Carolina is taking part in a growing movement around
the country, calling for a constitutional amendment to overturn Citizens
United and make it clear that our constitutional rights are for people, not
corporations.

Four other states have already passed similar resolutions. North Carolina
has a chance now to make history as just the fifth state to do so.

Here are some highlights from around the country:

. Rhode Island, Vermont, New Mexico, and Hawaii have passed
statewide resolutions calling for an amendment.

. The state senates of Alaska and Iowa have passed resolutions along
similar lines.

. The state house of California has also passed a resolution.

. Massachusetts' state legislature is also working on a resolution.

. Montana is gearing up to put a measure supporting an amendment
before the voters on the general election ballot this November.

. A state assembly committee in New York is working on a resolution
as well.

. More than 250 cities, towns, and counties nationwide have passed
resolutions calling for an amendment, including Asheville, Carrboro, Chapel
Hill, Franklin, Alamance County, and Orange County in North Carolina.

. 22 state Attorneys General, including Roy Cooper of North
Carolina, recently signed a brief urging the U.S. Supreme Court to revisit
the Citizens United ruling and to uphold a century-old Montana law barring
corporate money in elections.

Can you please make two quick calls now, to urge your state Rep. and Senator
to get on board with this growing movement?:

Thanks so much for your help. Together, we really can make history and put
America back in the hands of we, the people.

Sincerely,

- Peter
