About: Durham County Library and filmmaker Wil Weldon will present a screening of the documentary Pass It On, a film celebrating the life and teaching career of North Carolina native and author Reynolds Price. The screening will take place on Thursday, June 28 at 7 p.m. at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro Street.
This documentary reflects upon Reynolds Price's tenure of teaching English literature and writing at Duke University for over 50 years. Through the eyes of colleagues, former students, his peers-including Josephine Humphreys, Allan Gurganus and William Styron - and with Price's own voice, the film chronicles the author's vision and teaching philosophy. Wil Weldon, who directed and produced the film in 2010, had the opportunity to develop a deep friendship with Price as the author's student and assistant. Weldon will introduce the documentary and answer questions at the conclusion of the showing.
Weldon earned an M.A. from UNC-Chapel Hill's School of Journalism and Mass Communication, where his studies merged traditional broadcast techniques with online multimedia presentation. His work has appeared on NPR and UNC-TV, and on the web for various art and business entities throughout North Carolina.
This program is sponsored, in part, by Durham Library Foundation. To learn more, contact Joanne Abel at 919-560-0268.
