About: Durham County Library welcomes preservationist Ben Filippo of This & That Jam as he discusses the process, history and his envisioned future of canning as a means of connecting and "preserving" communities.
The event will be held on Monday, August 20 at 7 p.m. at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St. The discussion, featuring Filippo's theories regarding Durham's particularly deep connections to this culinary tradition, will be followed by a Q&A session.

Ben Filippo serves as the manager of the South Durham Farmer's Market, where he shares his wealth of experience in farming, food systems and education. His small, Durham-based company, This & That Jam, produces small batches of uniquely flavored, homemade jams that he believes "capture the season" and "cultural origins of the produce" used to make these culinary treats. The company has a two-part mission: "making fresh, seasonal preserves using local produce and teaching others about the importance of preserving their own food and living sustainably."

This program is made possible by funding from Durham Library Foundation. For more information, contact Joanne Abel at 919-560-0268.

Durham County Library provides the entire community with books, services and other resources that inform, inspire learning, cultivate understanding and excite the imagination.
