[Durham INC] Ending the cycle of poverty transportation

I hear ya, Matt. With current planning fiascos in South Durham, we are seeing more increasingly dense developments with no planned bus/mass-transit routes; thus, in addition to making it inconvenient for residents of these areas to use mass transit, those who might seek employment in these 'rural' areas (they are far from rural in reality, more like suburban with areas of sprawl and de-forestation) can't get there without their own ride.

My point is this: we still need to plan suburban density near planned mass-transit stops.

I suggested a 'Get on the Bus' day or week to get people to experience the bus and truly consider using it (at least on occasion) regardless of socio-economic, race, or convenience...much like 'National Night Out.'

I haven't heard any other constructive suggestions. Without these, we are just whinging, and that is rather counterproductive.

The INC listserv is no stranger to controversy and debate, and I am grateful for that. I would hate for anything to hinder this comfortable freedom of speech/writing.

I do think that discussions of Carl's blogs should be posted on his blog and not on the INC listserv though. And I say that knowing that I posted a response to this particular blog on the INC listserv, myself.

Even without his reminders regularly sent to the INC listserv, we all know where his blog resides, and since his joining the discussion via the INC listserv, I think most of us read his posts as well.

Now if we are talking about how, exactly, to improve bus ridership and service, there is no better place than the INC listserv.

Melissa (Rooney)
