Saturday, September 1, 1-3pm: Duke Sustainability Tour

Just this month, Sierra Magazine listed Duke as the 7th "Coolest School" in the country, based on its commitment to energy efficiency, water conservation and reuse, local food, transportation management, and renewable energy investments. These initiatives are part of Duke's Climate Action Plan, which maps the University's path to carbon neutrality by its 100-year anniversary in 2024. We will meet at 1pm at the Nicholas School in Room A158 of the LSRC, and then go on a walking tour of campus. Stops will include the Green Garage at the Duke Eye Center, the West Campus Steam plant which has been converted from coal to natural gas, a look at the WeCar fleet of Chevy volts that are available for rental, the solar thermal system at the Bryan Center, and a cistern that stores and reuses runoff from West Campus near the School of Engineering. Join us for a conversation on the evolution of sustainability at Duke, and "urban hike" around West Campus.
