Durham to Close Blackwell Street Railroad Crossing for Repaving

Closure in Effect Wednesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

DURHAM, N.C. - Motorists and pedestrians should take note that crossing
the railroad tracks on Blackwell Street in downtown Durham will not be
allowed for the remainder of this week due to scheduled repaving work.

Beginning Wednesday, September 12 and ending on Friday, September 14,
traffic will not be permitted to cross the railroad tracks at Blackwell
Street. Detour signage will be in place to help direct traffic through
this area.

On Wednesday, September 12, the Blackwell and West Pettigrew streets
intersection will be closed between 9 a.m. and 4pm. On Thursday,
September 13, the Blackwell and Ramseur streets intersection will be
closed between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. On Friday, September 14, each
intersection will be closed again, in staggered time frames for a
portion of the day, as the final layer asphalt is placed on either side
of the tracks.

These closures are necessary to allow the City's of Durham's contractor
to perform extensive patching within each intersection prior to repaving
both intersections. The repaving work will also help improve the
pedestrian pathway to cross the railroad tracks. The City's General
Services Department is also installing new plantings in this area to
further beautify this intersection.

This street repaving work is a part of the City's ST-253 Resurfacing
Project. For more information about the City's repaving efforts to date,
