About: Durham County Library's community read event, Durham Reads Together 2012, features the Judge Deborah Knott mystery series by North Carolina bestselling author, Margaret Maron. The third event in the series, Race in Margaret Maron's North Carolina, will be held on Saturday, September 22, at the Main Library, 300 N. Roxboro St. at 3 p.m.
Racial inequality in the judicial system was the main factor that led Deborah Knott to run for judge, and North Carolina's complicated relationship with race is woven into many of the Judge Knott novels. Dr. Sharon Holland, Associate Professor of English, African & African American Studies and Women's Studies at Duke University, will lead a discussion on how racial issues are explored in Maron's books.
The program will be followed by a meet up at Dos Perros Restaurant, 200 N. Mangum St., where Maron fans will discuss their favorite books in the Judge Deborah Knott series.
