What it looks like to me, is the complications of doing simple, reasonable things about letting someone grow a few tomatoes in your back yard and sell them, start a farmers' market, or have a community garden in a park.

Original e-mail-------The Durham Planning Department is hosting a public information meeting regarding proposed revisions to the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) for farmers’ markets and commercial crop production. This text amendment (case TC1200005) would add provisions to allow farmers’ markets with a temporary use permit in certain areas that do not permit retail uses, and adds commercial crop production as a separate use that would be permitted in all zoning districts. Community gardens are also more explicitly defined and additional supplementary requirements for the uses are proposed. Discussion will focus on the purpose of the amendment, what the text amendment allows someone to do, and subsequent changes to the current draft based upon comments already received. Additional questions and comments will also be welcomed. The current draft of the proposed amendments can be viewed athttp://durhamnc.gov/ich/cb/ccpd/Pages/Text%20Amendments/Pending-Text-Amendments.aspx. Click on case TC1200005. Where is the meeting held? The John O’Daniel Exchange at 801 Gilbert Street. When is the meeting?Tuesday, October 2nd at 6-8 pm. To provide comment or for more information please contact Michael Stock, 560-4137 x28227;Michael.Stock at DurhamNC.gov.
