New "City Hall This Week" Begins September 28

Project Homeless Connects Needs Volunteers and Donated Items; 

Volunteers Needed for Durham's Big Sweep

 

DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will
feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can

Project Homeless Connect in Need of Hundreds of Volunteers

Durham's annual Project Homeless Connect event is just two weeks away
and hundreds of volunteers are still needed to make it a success. The
event will take place on Thursday, October 11 at the Durham Bulls
Athletic Park between 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Project Manager Matt Schnars
explains what services are provided at Project Homeless Connect and how
volunteers can get involved.

 

Durham Police Department Marks New Phase of Leadership

Nine officers have recently been promoted within the Durham Police
Department. Those include one assistant chief, one captain, one
lieutenant, four sergeants, and two corporals. Among the highest ranking
promotions are Capt. Anthony Marsh Sr., who was promoted to the position
of assistant chief; Lt. David Addison, who was promoted to captain and
is the new District Three commander; and Sgt. Terrance Sembly, who has
been promoted to lieutenant and will be the new assistant commander in
the Central District. The promotions went into effect on September 10.

 

Durham Youth Commission Sworn In

More than two dozen youth now have an official voice on City issues
affecting them. Thirty teens were inducted as members of the 2012-2013
Durham Youth Commission during the September 17 City Council meeting.
The high school-aged young people will serve a one-year term and will
take part in the City's planning and decision-making process on issues
regarding Durham's youth.

 

Help Wanted for Durham's Big Sweep Event

Durham's annual Big Sweep event will take place on Saturday, October 6,
and the City wants to hear from anyone willing to get dirty for a good
cause. From 9 a.m. - 1 p.m., volunteers will pick up trash and litter
from the City's parks, roadways, creeks, and streams. Anyone interested
in volunteering can visit the Big Sweep website at 
http://Bit.ly/DurhamBigSweep. Soil Conservationist and Education
Coordinator Jennifer Brooks explains why the event is important for
Durham.
