New "City Hall This Week" Begins Tonight on DTV8

Durham, N.C. - The following topics will be featured in the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."  The show will begin airing on Friday, October 12 and will also be available to watch on-demand at http://www.YouTube.com/CityofDurhamNC.

 

Two Minority-Owned Businesses to Lead Way on Southside Revitalization

·    The Southside Revitalization project is moving forward with two minority-owned businesses leading the way. H.J. Russell and Company and Metcon Inc. will manage construction of the initial rental phase of the project as a joint venture. Interim Community Development Director Reginald J. Johnson explains why the selection of the two companies fits with the overall Southside redevelopment goals on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

 

City Offers Financial Assistance to Business Owners for Improvements

·    The City is offering some financial help to business owners wanting to make improvements. The Office of Economic and Workforce Development is accepting applications for targeted areas inside the City limits for Retail and Professional Services grants, Building Improvement grants and Sign and Façade grants. A mapping application is available on the City's website to help identify whether a potential project is eligible for a specific grant.

 

14 Durham Properties Honored Through Golden Leaf Awards

·    14 Durham properties are being honored for their curb appeal. The Golden Leaf Awards are given out every year to call attention to properties that raise the bar for excellence in design and maintenance. For a complete list of this year's winners, visit www.DurhamGoldenLeaf.org.

 

City Employees Answer the Schewel Challenge

·    City Councilman Steve Schewel issued a challenge to City employees, and they responded in force. On October 6, Councilman Schewel challenged all City of Durham employees to  run or walk with him on the American Tobacco Trail. The goal of the six-mile race was to increase physical activity, while making City history at the same time. 23 City employees participated in the event.
