City Launches "Our Trail, Our Town" Campaign

The City of Durham recently launched the "Our Trail, Our Town" campaign
to raise safety awareness on the American Tobacco Trail. The campaign
allows the City and trail users to work in partnership to keep those on
the trail safe. One component of the campaign is a Trail Watch Program,
which is modeled after the Neighborhood Watch Program. Durham Police
Department Master Officer Reese Carson III explains how the program will
work.

Significant Sewer Main Project About to Get Underway

One of the sanitary sewer mains feeding into the North Durham Water
Reclamation Facility is about to undergo some much-needed repairs. The
project includes repairing approximately 1,900 linear feet of the
Ellerbe Creek bank north of Club Boulevard. The stream bank surrounding
one of the primary mains has significantly eroded, threatening to expose
the main itself. The City Council approved a $595,000 contract to repair
the stream bank, which should protect it from future erosion.

Southeast Central Durham Revitalization Effort Gets Boost from Federal
Government

The effort to revitalize several communities within Southeast Central
Durham recently got a big boost. The Durham Housing Authority received a
$300,000 grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development. The grant, which is leveraged to approximately $1 million,
will be used for the area that is bordered by Highway 147 on the north,
Elmira Park on the south, Bacon Street on the east, and Roxboro Street
on the west. It also includes the McDougald Terrace public housing
community.
