Durham County Offers Second Cycle of Matching Grants Funding
Durham, NC - November 7, 2012 - The Matching Grants Program of the 
Durham Open Space
and Trails Commission is now accepting applications from nonprofit 
organizations
  in Durham County. Applications will be accepted from nonprofit 
organizations inside
or outside Durham City Limits, from November 14, 2012 to January 7, 
2013. The Matching
Grants Program held its first cycle application process for funding in 
August. Remaining
funds from the first cycle have enabled the grants program to offer the 
opportunity
for additional nonprofits to apply.
Grants awarded assist nonprofit organizations in preserving open space 
lands and
  promoting new or improved recreational opportunities for citizens.
Projects and programs eligible for grants include, but are not limited to:
* Assistance to a local land conservancy organization in acquiring an 
environmentally
significant natural area in Durham County.
* Assistance to a local neighborhood association to develop a "tot lot" 
and playground
for the neighborhood and public.
* Assistance to a local scout troop to clear and build a trail on 
publicly owned
  lands.
* Assistance to a Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to upgrade play 
equipment at
a local elementary school that is used by the community.
Applications are due by 5 p.m. on Monday, January 7th. Applications must 
be submitted
by the deadline to:
