Durham Launches Build a Better Block Initiative

A new initiative geared toward attracting more businesses to East Durham
is under way in the Angier-Driver corridor. The goal of the Build a
Better Block program is to bring new economic life to the existing
underused storefronts at the intersection of Driver Street and Angier
Avenue. The 30-day pilot allows businesses a chance to operate on a
short-term basis while deciding whether to commit to a long-term effort.
Neighborhood Development Specialist Wanona Satcher explains more about
how the program works.

Town Hall Meeting to Review Proposed Small Local Business Enterprise
Program

The proposed Small Local Business Enterprise Program could soon offer
business owners in Durham, Chatham, Orange and Person counties more
chances to obtain contracts working with the City. A town hall meeting
on the proposed program will be held on Wednesday, November 14 at 6 p.m.
at City Hall. Equal Opportunity and Equity Assurance Department Director
Deborah Giles explains why the program is needed.

City Council Approves Changes to Rules Governing Food Trucks

The City Council voted to approve changes to the regulations governing
food trucks, food carts, and other street vendors in Durham. The changes
impact rules for vendors in street rights of way, how buffers with
restaurants are handled, and the permits that are required. The new
regulations will apply citywide.

Durham Receives "Green Fleet" Honorable Mention

Durham's government vehicle fleet is being honored once again for being
one of the greenest in North America. The City's Fleet Management
Department received an honorable mention for having a green fleet
program. Durham was the only city in North Carolina to place in the
"Honorable Mentions" list and no other city in North Carolina made the
Top 40 list.
