Local CPR Collaboration to Help Save Lives

DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will
feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can
also watch this new episode on demand at

Durham Works to Improve Safety of Railroad Crossings within City Limits

Durham is working with its transportation partners to make sure the
railroad crossings within the city are as safe as possible. The Durham
Traffic Separation Study is focusing on 18 at-grade railroad crossings
throughout the city. Wesley Parham, technical services assistant
director for the Transportation Department, explains more about what the
study is and what types of improvements are being considered.

City Tow Truck Fee Policy Now More Standardized

The City now has a more standardized policy regarding tow truck fees
when police-initiated tows and other towing services are needed. The
City Council amended the City Code to set a standard schedule of fees
that can be charged in specific situations. The fees apply primarily to
tow truck operators who are on the police department's rotation list.
Those operators respond to calls in which a vehicle needs to be removed
from public streets or occasionally, when a vehicle needs to be removed
from private property. The standard fees will now apply in both of those
situations.

City and County Governments and Durham Public Schools Work to Save Lives

Durham City and County governments and Durham Public Schools (DPS) are
joining forces to help save lives. As part of both the City and County's
strategic plan efforts to improve the safety and health of Durham
residents, a CPR training session was held at Jordan High School on
December 19. Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell, County Commissioner Michael
Page, and DPS Superintendent Dr. Eric Becoats joined students in
bystander hands-only CPR, as well as automated external defibrillator
education. Similar training sessions will be held for local government
employees and students across Durham.
