Durham Hosts Summer Youth Work Program Kick Off February 15

Employment Opportunities Available for Ages 14-21 

 

What:              Mayor's Annual Summer Youth Work Program Kick Off

 

Who:               City of Durham Office of Economic and Workforce

When:             Friday, February 15, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

 

Where:            Holton Career & Resource Center

Durham, N.C. 27701

 

Fast Facts

*         The Mayor's Summer Youth Work Program offers Durham youth ages
14 to 21 the opportunity to gain work experience and develop skills
while connecting with City and County governments and local employers.  

 

*         Approximately 450 summer employment opportunities will be
available this year. Participants will begin work in mid-June. 

 

*         Pizza and the opportunity to win prizes will be available to
participating youth at the event. 

 

*         Youth applicants may visit the City's website at 
http://durhamnc.gov/ich/cb/oewd/Pages/Summer-Youth-Works-Program-Durham.
aspx to fill out an application. There will also be an interview
process. 

 

*         Some of the partnering public organizations and private-sector
companies with job opportunities are:

o   City of Durham 

o   Durham County 

o   Durham Public Schools 

o   Raleigh-Durham Electrical Joint Apprenticeship Training Council 

o   City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development 

o   Durham Parks & Recreation 

o   City's Neighborhood Improvement Services Department

o   Durham County's Social Services Department
