City Makes Progress with Proactive Rental Inspection Program

The City is moving ahead with implementing its Proactive Rental
Inspection Program. The program allows the City to proactively inspect
rental properties for violations of the minimum housing code. The
program includes periodic inspections within a designated area;
reasonable cause periodic inspections; registration; a property manager
entrepreneurial program; and self-certification. Program Administrator
Faith Gardner explains more about what the program is and which
violations have been most commonly found.

City Commits More Money and Support Toward Re-Examination of Falls Lake
Rules

The City Council is putting its support and more taxpayer money toward
the re-examination of the Falls Lake Nutrient Management Strategy goals.
Assistant Water Quality Manager Michelle Woolfolk explains why the
re-examination of the goals is needed.

Durham to Host "Trail Season" Kickoff

As part of the Our Trails, Our Town initiative, a "Trail Season" kickoff
event will be held on April 4 at the American Tobacco Trail at the
corner of Morehead Avenue and Blackwell Street. The activities will
begin at 5:30 p.m. and last until 7 p.m. The event will feature a
non-competitive walk, information booths, volunteer information and bike
tune-ups. For more information, visit http://www.DPRPlayMore.org.

City-Sponsored Grants to Benefit Business Owners In and Around Downtown

Business owners interested in gaining funds to help improve their
properties now have a way to do that through two City-sponsored grant
opportunities. The Office of Economic and Workforce Development is now
accepting applications for targeted areas inside the city limits. The
funding is available through Retail and Professional Services Grants and
Building Improvement Grants. Eligible projects will be considered for
both grants in the Downtown Development Tier and within the community
development area outside of the Downtown Development Tier. The deadline
to apply for both grants is April 4.
