Durham YouthWork Internship Program Looks to Area Businesses for
Partnerships

The City of Durham is putting out a call to area businesses to help make
a difference in the career development of our local teens. The Durham
YouthWork Internship Program, formerly the Mayor's Summer Youth Work
Program, offers young people the opportunity to gain work experience and
develop skills critical to jobs they may have in the future. Office of
Economic and Workforce Development Director Kevin Dick explains why its
partnerships with businesses are crucial for the success of the program
and its participants.

City Helps Homeowners and Small Businesses Save Money and Water

The City is helping homeowners and small businesses to keep money and
water from flowing out the door. As part of Fix-a-Leak Week, the Water
Management Department provided free information and guidance at area
Lowe's and Home Depot stores to residents and small business owners. The
goal was to help them learn how to identify and fix these costly and
wasteful problems. According to City staff, leaks can account for more
than 10,000 gallons of water in an average home every year. That's equal
to the amount of water it takes to wash 270 loads of laundry.

Durham Recognized as "Tree City USA" for 30th Consecutive Year

Durham has set a milestone in showing how "tree friendly" it really is.
During the annual Arbor Day celebration held on March 22, the City was
recognized as a "Tree City USA" for the 30th consecutive year. The event
also marked the grand opening and dedication of the newly landscaped
Black Wall Street Plaza, which is located at the corner of Mangum and
Parrish Streets. Find out why these two milestones are so closely
connected.
