New "City Hall This Week" Begins May 3

Main Street Bridge Replacement Project Begins May 13; "Find Your Cool"
Concert Series Kicks Off May 9

 

DTV8's "City Hall This Week" will debut a new show tonight at 8 p.m.
Hosted by Senior Public Affairs Specialist Amy Blalock, this show will
feature the following highlights and other topics of interest. You can

Main Street Bridge Replacement Set to Get Underway

The North Carolina Department of Transportation's (NCDOT) replacement of
the Main Street bridge over Campus Drive is ready to get underway.
Construction is set to begin on May 13, and its timeframe will coincide
with reduced enrollment at Duke University during the summer session.
The project is expected to be finished by September. City Transportation
Director Mark Ahrendsen explains how this NCDOT project will impact
traffic.

 

Installation of American Tobacco Trail Pedestrian Bridge Over I-40
Continues

Work to install the new American Tobacco Trail pedestrian bridge over
I-40 has begun. The new bridge was officially set in place on its
foundations on April 28. For the next few weeks, the bridge deck,
fencing, lighting, and other elements will be installed. The bridge is
still on schedule to be completed in July. Once finished, the project
will extend the American Tobacco Trail from its current end point on
Highway 54 at Fayetteville Street to the Chatham County line.

 

"Find Your Cool" Concert Series Kicks Off May 9

Durham's new "Find Your Cool" concert series promises to offer something
for everyone throughout the summer. The free series is sponsored by
Downtown Durham Inc. (DDI) and will take place on Thursday nights at the
CCB Plaza from 7-8:30 p.m. DDI Special Events Coordinator Tess Mangum
Ocana explains what types of music will be featured. To see the series'

"Get Your Grass Off Gas" Events Coming Up

Anyone wanting to trade in their old gas-guzzling mowers and other yard
equipment for cleaner and greener electric versions will have the
opportunity to do so at the upcoming "Get Your Grass Off Gas" events.
The Durham City-County Sustainability Office and Black & Decker are
hosting one of the events at the Durham County Memorial Stadium on
Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The second event will be held at
Jordan High School on Saturday, June 15 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
City-County Sustainability Manager Tobin Freid explains what equipment
will be available.
