												DURHAM CREATIVE VITALITY INDEX™ ANNOUNCEMENT

Sherry DeVries - Executive Director, Durham Arts Council
with data support from WESTAF and Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau

Find out the latest data on how Durham measures up statewide and nationally as a top-ranked creative community and how YOU are part of the equation! The Creative Vitality Index™, or the CVI, uses streams of occupational and revenue data from both the for-profit and non-profit sectors to measure the annual changes in the economic health of various segments of arts-related creative economy. Our CVI was good three years ago in our first study -- how do we stack up now?

A lively music scene, crowded coffee shops and restaurants, well-designed buildings, thriving art galleries, successful design firms, exciting museums and theatres, opportunities for arts participation - these are elements we find in the communities that drive the new economy. In places like Boston, Seattle, Austin and Durham, this kind of energetic, open atmosphere attracts good companies and skilled workers interested in a high quality of life - which in turn leads to a self-sustaining cycle of economic and cultural vitality.
The Creative Vitality Index™ was conceived as a tool that states, counties, cities and towns can use to assess and enhance their creative edge. Created by WESTAF.
